Los Unidades & Pharrell Williams Collaborate on ‘E-Lo’ Featuring Jozzy
“E-Lo”(feat. Jozzy) was just released by a brand new musical act called Los Unidades and Pharrell Williams. Although Los Unidades might sound brand new to you, the artists behind it are pioneers and legends. While listening to “E-Lo,” you’re able to hear familiar vocals by Coldplay’s very own, Chris Martin. Los Unidades is a Coldplay side project focused on sharing socially conscious music about global unity.
Releasing music under a different band name was shocking to Coldplay fans. Yet, if “E-Lo” is any indication, Los Unidades are making music with a broader objective and powerful message. “E-Lo” is a bright track mixing jazzy beats, pop tones, and dancehall vibes. The song notably infuses South African-inspired elements like the “E-o-lo-lo” chanting and killer lyrics such as “hurt me outside, but inside I’m free.”
Additionally, the layered vocals are heart-warming, holding a sense of community and togetherness.
You’re can tune into Los Unidades collection by listening to their Global Citizen – EP 1. The four-track EP was recently released in celebration of peace leader Nelson Mandela and South Africa’s Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100. Chris Martin himself curated the festival’s musical lineup which featured the likes of Beyonce and Jay-Z, Ed Sheeran, and more.
Aligned with the festival’s ideals, the proceeds of Global Citizen – EP 1 will support campaigns to end extreme poverty. Also, assist with education, clean water, and gender equality. The EP features a host of international stars like Stormzy, Wizkid, and David Guetta. Los Unidades mentioned that “E-Lo” was inspired by Mandela, yet, you’ll find a great homage to the South African president on the EP in the form of “Stargate” and in the “E-Lo” lyric video.
